How to Make Your LinkedIn Profile Easy for Recruiters to Find
How recruiters search LinkedIn, and the profile changes that make you show up and get messages: headline, About section, skills, experience and activity.
Recruiters search LinkedIn much like a search engine: by job title, skills, location and experience. If your profile does not use the words they search for, a strong background can stay invisible.
The changes below take an afternoon and keep working for you while you apply elsewhere.
Headline
- Lead with the job title you want, in the words employers use, for example "Data Analyst | SQL, Power BI, Python".
- Add two or three core skills or a specialism. Avoid vague lines such as "Seeking new opportunities".
About section
- Open with one sentence on what you do and for whom.
- Add two or three results with numbers.
- List the roles, industries and locations you are open to, including remote or relocation if relevant.
- Keep it scannable: short paragraphs, plain language.
Skills, experience and settings
- Add the skills from the job adverts you are targeting, and pin your top three.
- Write experience as achievements, not duties, using the same action-and-result bullets as your CV.
- Set your location to the city you want to work in if you are open to relocating there, and say so clearly.
- Turn on Open to Work for recruiters only if you do not want a public banner.
- Use a clear, recent photo and a simple banner. Profiles with a photo tend to be viewed more.
Simple activity habits
- Comment thoughtfully on posts from people at companies you want to join.
- Share one short post a week about something you learned or built.
- Send connection requests with a one-line personal note.
